Personal Development and Improvement through the Internet
The Internet has become part of many people’s daily life. There are people who work online and still use the internet to offer entertainment through listening to music and streaming movies. The advent of the internet has made it possible to make purchases without ever leaving their premises. Apart from making life easier through online shopping and banking, the internet is a rich source of information that can be used for self-improvement. Through the internet, people have acquired education through online/distance learning. Due to busy work schedules and other issues of life, attending a brick and mortar classroom may be impractical (Gil, 2015).
The internet has made it easier to enroll in higher education. It eliminates the need for traveling to school, looking for parking, and having to attend classes at specific times of the day. Through the internet, an employee can enroll for a degree without having to apply for leave to attend classes. Though previously frowned upon, online degrees have become popular and even Ivy League universities offer a range of academic programs at undergraduate and graduate levels. The internet is rich with credible information on any field of study including books by reliable authors and peer-reviewed journals. One can communicate with their lecturer and engage in a discussion online (Gil, 2015).
Assignments are sent through dedicated websites and similarly, students upload finished assignments on the website. Moreover, the lecturer will send the final scores for each student through the website portal. The student is only required to be physically present at the university or college premises when sitting for the end of semester examinations. The knowledge acquired has been used to enhance productivity at the workplace through better service delivery (Gil, 2015).
