In the video on existential theory, Stan reacts to learning that his father is in hospital. He is scared that his father might die before he (Stan) proves his capacity to him. At this point, he also voices his desire to do something that will prove his worth to both his father and the world. He would want to work with kids. I feel that this decision is made on the basis of him wanting to be better than his father in dealing with children. He may also probably have a desire to help children who have suffered situations that are similar to his. I might require Stan to be more open with regard to what he may want his relationship with his father to be like. Dr. Corey uses unstructured interview method in this session. The structure of the session is mainly driven by Stan.
In the person centered therapy video, Stan enquires as to whether it would be reasonable for him to contact his divorced wife. However, Dr. Corey feels that Stan would be in a better position to answer that question himself. Dr. Corey also tells Stan that he is sad about Stan’s being too hard to himself. This emotion helps to show some connection between the two. However, Stan feels that Dr. Corey may be saying some things so as to make him feel better. This is detrimental to the purpose of this video. However, Stan also feels that Dr. Corey has said some things that were not too good to hear. The session is a useful one for Stan as it helps in self discovery.
In
the Gestalt video, the Dr. Corey tells Stan to play the roles of those people
who are in his dreams. According to Dr. Corey, a dream gives more information
about the dreamer than about those who are in it. Dr. Corey asks him to play
the roles of all those who were in their dream specifically in regard to what
they think about him. This method is a very effective one if well utilized. It
could be better if Stan had played the roles in the different positions that
everyone was in. He would therefore have to stand to represent Dr. Corey and so
on.
