Reflection

Previously I worked at a particular company as a project engineer. During the period I was working there, I was lucky to have learned about various features regarding project management such as the activities within the project and how the planning, development, and completion get done (Kerzner, 2017). During the project, I also experienced various virtues of good leadership and the roles an engineer need to do in a project. The following paragraph highlights some of the four attributes of leadership I experienced during the project.

One, I experienced selflessness leadership virtue from the project manager (Lloyd & Walker, 2011). One of the important dates during the project is when we accomplished the project. The manager showed all the team members that he valued their roles in the organization. Instead of taking the credit alone, he recognized all the team that participated in the projected and told us that we had achieved the success as a team. He showed us that we all deserved the credit. As a result, it made all the members to feel their worthiness in the project. Also, the manager showed this virtue of deep selfless by assisting the team members where necessary, since he believed that the success of the project depends on the success of every role in the project.

During my experience at the company as the project engineer, I noticed that the project manager showed a virtue of deep honesty (Yang et al., 2012). The manager told you informed me about his beliefs and his intentions at the workplace. The manager did not hide any information regarding the project from me. Additionally, he never hides from telling me the truth; he could praise me when I had done the right thing and also inform me when I did something that was inappropriate. The honesty of the manager made me have trust in him, and when carrying out my duties, I could be able to predict his expectations.

Also, during my experience as a project engineer at the company, I realized that there was fairness in the workplace (Lloyd & Walker, 2011). The project manager treated all the staff equally, including me the project engineer. He did not have a favorite employee when assigning roles. This virtue made me and the other team members feel noticed, respected and cared, which made us believe in the manager. As a result, it made me focus on navigating the challenges within the project.

Additionally, during the experience at the firm, I noticed that the manager had compassionate leadership skills. As an engineer, I experienced different challenges in the roles that I needed to accomplish. As a result, I had to inform the manager regarding the problems I was facing. I was happy that the manager accepted to listen to my problems and was willing to provide support where necessary. He helped to understand some of the ideas I was meeting for the first time.

Overall, I have a positive experience from the company. I enjoyed every detail that I have experienced and learned as an Engineering student during the project. I believe that in leaders should apply the leadership virtues in project management since the attributes not only ensure the success of the project but also enables the manager to create a good relationship between him or her with the team members. I believe that in the future when appointed as a manager for a specific project, I will be able to apply the outstanding leadership virtues.
