New or Valuable Reminder of Organizational Behavior Learning
Learning organizational behavior was a reminder me of some of the things that happen on daily basis in organizations, most of which we are not much keen to note. The course also introduced much of which will be important as I supervise or lead a group or an organization in future. In the missions that we are undertaking, this course will help me understand my team members and how to deal with any problem that arises in the group concerning the team behavior.
The study was all about learning organizations from multiple methods, levels of analysis and different perspectives. “Micro” organizational behavior focused on the dynamics of individuals in the group or organization, whereas the “macro” organizational theories and strategic management studied the whole organizations, especially on ways to adapt strategies, contingencies and structures that guide the organizations.
Generally, the study brought about understanding organizational behavior in a wider multi-disciplinary context. It made theoretical and practical features of organizational behavior familiar. The course developed the appreciation of the roles of leadership in the organization of community activities related to higher education.
Application of Organizational Behavior to Your Work Experiences
The study of organizational behavior will be necessary when I will be required to create an organization that is more efficient and productive. The scientific approach will be applied to manage the workers. Practice of the organizational behavior theories will maximize the outputs from every individual member of a group. Application of that knowledge will lead to organizational development, enhanced performance within the organization as well as to enhance group or individual commitment, satisfaction and performance. Working in organizations will be much satisfying as I apply the concepts such as leadership, teambuilding, job satisfaction, decision-making and motivation (Greenberg, 2013), as learnt in this course. According to Greenberg (2013), Success of a management largely depends on the application of that which was learnt on delegation of tasks, analyzing behavior as well as organizing resources.
Implications for You as a Present or Future Manager
As a future manager, study of organizational behavior is essential to help in controlling, explaining and predicting how individuals interact in the organization. As a manager, I will have the duty of ensuring that the performance is always high in the organization. This shall be enhanced by the topic learnt on motivation. Application of the knowledge gained will ensure employees are satisfied and shall put more effort to accomplish their tasks, and it will also influence how long they will work to accomplish the task. The practice on how to compensate and give benefits for motivation purposes will raise the level of job satisfaction and therefore, increase motivation.
Knowledge of organizational behavior will act as a guide on the types of goals that need to be set, and how to come up with such goals. Being able to distinguish the different employees as competitors, individualists, co-operators and equalizers (Greenberg, 2013), will help me in delegating jobs as well as know how to deal with each individual.
Feedback on how the course has been and how it might be improved
The course was one of the best. The work was well-distributed throughout the seven weeks to cover everything that needed to be covered. Written posts have been also a much better way that we were able to communicate, however, for the other courses in future; I propose that the introduction part, as we start the course be done using video posts. This might help making the discussions that follow in future seem livelier, knowing the people you are responding to.
