Religious Right : Solution Essays

The following statement just needs a reply to ! 150 if possible (reply must include the similarities or differences in your worldview with that of the author.)

By definition, the term worldview is defined as “a commitment, a fundamental orientation of the heart, that can be expressed as a story or in the presuppositions that we hold about the basic constitution of reality, and that provides the foundation on which we live and move and have our being” (Sire, The Universe Next Door). The Religious Rights movement was started by believers who based their worldview on the unshakable truth of God and His Word, the Bible. This group of people allowed the Word of God to form and determine how they viewed and interacted with the world happening around them. When the Religious Rights movement started to emerge, the worldview just described above was held by (and still is held by) those who were more socially conservative, traditional, and held strong family values. Meaning, that those who held that belief system wanted to do things such as: restore public prayer within the United States school systems, make the choice to have an abortion illegal, and prohibit the state’s recognition of same-sex marriage.

If I am, to be honest, I have a hard time comparing and contrasting my belief system with that of the Religious Rights movement. I say that not to make this assignment any easier on myself, but simply because I think I am at a point in my life where I am wresting to find the tension in all I believe, a process of discovery. I love God, so desperately, however, I have also seen the brutality of and just how extreme the Religious Rights movement can be. With that said, I guess I am searching for the middle: what is Biblically sound but synonymously all that is not condemning or oppressive because I feel as if that is the opposite of the Word of God.
