Technology: Help or Hindrance?

Invention and technology have always been an important part of changing the way one lives. Things that did not exist when your parents or grandparents were young, have changed the way most people in this world live. Some of this technology has altered the lives of the average person today. There are many opinions on technology; some people love technology and other people view technology as a detriment to society. Where do you stand on the issue of technology?

Pick one of the topics listed below and conduct some research a “Newspaper Source” electronic database to obtain factual information to support your position. You can also use other electronic databases to locate your research.

This essay should be at least 5 paragraphs in length and use APA in-text citation to give credit to your sources. 

Be sure to follow our guidelines for writing a 5 paragraph essay.

P1-states the thesis and 3 key ideas that will be discussed in the essay -5-6 sentences.

P2,3,4- each paragraph provides detailed explanations and examples for each of the 3 key ideas-6-8 sentences for each paragraph.

P5-restate thesis, 3 key ideas, and provide a concluding statement-5-6 sentences.

Choice 1- Texting is considered a valuable way of communicating; some people spend too much time sending messages by phone instead of engaging in actual interpersonal conversation. Explain why you agree or disagree with this statement.

Choice 2- Online learning is convenient for students and often more effective than traditional classroom instruction. Explain why you agree or disagree with this statement.

Has this technology had a primarily positive or negative benefit? Make a choice. Use articles from the Monroe College Library “Newspaper Source” electronic database, specific examples, and logic to support your opinion. The prompt does not give you a choice to explain both sides of the issue even though there may well be two ways to look at it.
