Introduction
The society is an ever changing entity. Its form today is different from what it was yesterday and certainly different form the form of tomorrow.
Thesis statement- A hero is any individual who puts the needs of other people into as much consideration as their, just as Lauren does once their neighborhood has been destroyed.
Body
Similarities of Lauren’s narrative to a mono myth
The preparation of a hero is synonymous to the target practice that Lauren’s father took her along with other young people that lived within the walled communities.
A hero is expected to make friends and enemies along the way like Lauren and her travel companions did as they moved up north after their homes were razed down by fire and they had to move.
Lauren faced setbacks along the journey which is similar to the description of the Hero’s journey when she got shot and when she had to overcome her hyper empathy.
Difference
The beginning of the journey that Lauren took is not the same as the typical mono myth beginning whereby the hero starts out on the journey on their own doing as opposed to Lauren who was thrust out of her comfort zone.
Lauren, unlike the normal hero’s, does not re-emerge with new strength and knowledge, she develops the knowledge she had acquired along the way to progress.
Unlike normal a normal hero, Lauren does not have a place to return to once her conquest is done and she settles at Bankole’s piece of land.
New community
The travel companions that Lauren got along the way formed a new community that she now belonged to unlike where the Hero returns to their community.
The travel companions formed a community out of necessity, they did not choose each other but circumstances forced them to be one community which is not related to the story being a mono myth
The community that Lauren formed at her tender age was the best place they all had at that time as the land belonged to one of them.
Conclusion
The hero in Lauren fought tooth and nail to protect her travel companions and take them to safety as she had not been in a position to save her family when they needed her most, which is seen to be heroic as she put her pain aside for the wellbeing of others.
The future with the current attitudes in the society is likely to take several steps back in terms of civilization of the society and progress in development of the economy.
