Rosa Parks: History

 Essay Topic Declaration Form
Stage 1
Directions: You will have One essay due for the class. In order to start on your research, you are required to submit your “Essay Topic Declaration Form” which contains: topic, thesis, and sources for approval. In order to do so adequately you need to follow the syllabus (see below) because I am not looking for summary essays, I am looking for possible political, social or historical implications and impact. The form requires a good deal of preliminary reading and research which will prepare your paper for successful strong research from strong sources. You may not proceed with writing your research paper until I have approved each section of the form (remove the red letters and place in your information for your “Essay Topic Declaration”). Once completed, place the form in the dropbox found in D2L.

Syllabus:
Research Essay (1): Twenty- percent (20%) of the grade will come from 2 assignments; The first assignment will come from completing the Research Topic Declaration Form (5%)for the Research Essay which consists of submitting your topic, a thesis/purpose statement and four sources for approval. The topic must be on a historical figure (excluding Lincoln, MLK, Obama and Trump) or an event of your choosing between 1865 – 2018. A minimum of 2- primary sources and 2 academic journals will be accepted. Any other sources will result in rejection of the assignment. A poor choice of sources will reflect heavily on the grade. I am looking for each source to be accompanied with an academic abstract and a description of how each source will be used for the Research Essay. The Research paper cannot be started until the instructor has given the green light. The 2nd assignment is the Research Essay (15%.) The Research Essay, MUST address the social, political, and/or the historical implications of the chosen topic. Just the facts will not result in a passing grade. Summaries of facts and biographical information may only be used to support the implications. No quotes will be allowed because I need to see your thoughts on your research implications. The Research Essay must be at least 500 words but no more than 600 words. The sources citations do not count toward the 500 words. All written assignments must be written in MLA format and must include the approved sources in a works cited page and use parenthetical citations for the sources within the essay. The assignments must be uploaded in D2L as MS Word file (.doc or .docx) so that D2L’s Turnitin can review the work for originality. The turnitin originality report must be 30% or below.
