SELF REVIEW: NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN

Question 1

Essay question: Does the author clearly display violence and immorality in the society of his novel?

The essay is supposed to clearly identify situations of violence and immorality in the novel. It also looks and the negative effects that arise from acts of violence and immorality.

Question 2

The thesis question reflects my desire to compare the modern society with the society of the novel. It also reflects my desire to review the position of violence in the society.

Question 3

The middle of the essay complicates the essay question in two instances. First body paragraph looks at the psychological impact of violence and how much it has taken from Bell. Fourth body paragraph looks at the position of family in the violence. In attempting to do so, we look at the positive side of this society. The essay then brings out the position of violence in the family.

Question 4

Claim: Moss is supposed to be the good young man of the society.

Question 5

The paragraph uses the text to reject the claim that Moss acts within the standards expected of him in a standard society. It points to his weaknesses and shows his violence side.

Question 6

Moss is supposed to be the young protagonist of the novel; someone to relate with. He should be able to live within the limits of the society.

Question 7

The entire body is well presented. All ideas are pointed and related to the thesis of the paper.

Question 8

The conclusion is clearly developed and helps to answer the question raised in the introduction. It only serves to show the stand taken by the evidence presented in the body paragraphs.

Revised last body paragraph

The similarities between Moss and Chirugh are astounding, showing further how the society’s morals have deteriorated.  Moss, the young protagonist, and Chigurh are similar on several grounds.  They are both hunting predators; they are weapon specialists; they get injured in their gun fights, limp out of their injuries, and their final target in life is money.  Chigurh is a paid hit man and Moss risks his wife’s life for money (Collado-Rodriguez 6).  The similarity between them shows that even killing Chigurh is not a solution to society.  Eventually, the extreme evil will wins and Moss is killed.
