Simple Gifts, Great Impact

My parents’ relocation to New York City meant that I had to change schools. The worst part of this deal was that I had to leave my friends, most of whom we had grown together and had developed a stronger bond more than siblings. All in all change is inevitable and I joined the school in the city. As a new-comer I became a point of attention especially among the school bullies, whose fists got a soft landing on my body. Lucky for me, I got a savior in form of boy who seemed very aloof and kept much to himself. From this point we became very close friends in and outside the school.
Last Christmas I decided to appreciate my new friend for being there for me when nobody else was there. I got him a pair of soccer boots. Soccer was his favorite game and he had the command of a king in the pitch. I knew his magical touch on the soccer ball would never be the same again. This would really mean a lot to him.
In return, my friend gave me a simple bracelet, which he had engraved our names on it. This was a bracelet that he always wore, his personal treasure. The bracelet would not have fetched any price in the poorest pawn shop. One thing became clear to me, this was my friend’s most adorable item. He always had it in his bag and feared losing it. He had improvised on it and engraved both of our names inside a heart. I considered the sacrifice that my friend had made just to give me the gift. As we approach this year’s official period for offering gifts, I can assure you that the bracelet has never left my left hand. It continues to provide a reminder of the true value of the selfless act of my friend. Simple gift that touched my heart.
