Over the last few years, the world has seen an increase in population in an unprecedented manner. Population increase has become a tremendous issue in the view of climate and the ability of the universe or else the world to sustain the high population which is still on the rise even in the present day. The rate at which people are reproducing is unarguably higher than that that the world can sustain. It is a rate that is becoming a threat to the environment and nature in many ways. One of it is that it has increased the presence of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere as a result of economic activities that are being undertaken to see to it that the humans living on earth are sustained. The effects of the increasing growth in population are more instrumental on the people who rise from developing countries such as Columbia whose their rapidly growing population has so much influenced economic, security and social spheres. Seeing that uncontrolled population growth has negative impacts on the universe, there is a need for governments to make use of various interventions that would help to slow down population growth.
Greenhouse Gases and their Contribution to Global Warming
One of the most detrimental effects of the growing human population is the release of greenhouse gases into the environment. Greenhouse gases can be seen as gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect by absorbing infrared radiations such that they are not released out of the atmosphere into space. There are many types of greenhouse gases among them being Carbon (IV) Oxide, Methane (CH4), Nitrogen (II) Oxide, Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). The greenhouse gases while trapped on the earth’s atmosphere carry out very destructive duties. One thing is that they absorb the infrared radiations that are in the wavelength of the earth’s range (“Climate change causes: A blanket around the Earth,” 2019). They do not just absorb, but they also emit the radiations back to the world atmosphere once again causing the infrared radiations to be just inhabited in the earth instead of being released into space.
Greenhouse gases are the main contributors to global warming. Definitively, global warming is the average rise in the world’s temperatures. By October 2015, it was established that the temperature of the world had increased by a major 1.5°C. Such a rise in temperature is an aspect of global warming where greenhouse gases could be said to have been the main contributors. The temperature of the earth is regulated in such a simple way. It is maintained through a well-maintained production of the infrared radiations and their consequent release into the outer space (“Climate change causes: A blanket around the Earth,” 2019). The greenhouse gases are however absorbers of the radiations meaning that the radiations do not leave the earth’s space. Balanced management of the radiations is made when they are produced and eliminated from the earth’s atmosphere. By holding back the radiations, and emitting them back to the atmosphere again, greenhouse gases promote global warming.
Challenges Posed By the Emissions and the Greatest Offenders
The net effect of the release of the gases is a change in the temperature and the climate of the world, something that affects not only the industrialized countries but also the developing countries (Ford, 2017). Columbia is, for instance, a country that is not as industrialized as the United States is. However, the country as a developing country suffers the negative effects of global warming because the industrialized countries release emissions that make their environment to be subject to global warming too.
The emissions that are released into the atmosphere pose particular challenges to the economies of developing nations. One of the impacts of global warming is the change in seasons, changes in growth zones, changes in industrial productivity among others. Global warming has caused control of industrialization around the world which makes the creation of employment in the developing countries to be hard (McKibben, 2018). Columbia for instance been limited by the recent environmental talks on the number of industries it can be established. The country therefore even when it is a third world country is therefore restricted in the number if industries that it can establish thereby derailing the nation in the economic sphere.
Concerning the security and political spheres, global warming has become a matter of discussion by the industrialized states. The politics regarding environmental management that Columbia is expected to follow are made by the G-7 where it is not one of the member states. In that spectral view, therefore, the politics of the developing worlds in a significant way is influenced on such factors such as whether their president acknowledges the resolution of the same offenders. The security mechanisms of Columbia and the politics of the nation are therefore heavily impacted on the politics of the very offenders who are the industrialized nations.
Population Growth Control on a Global Level
Seeing that population growth has led to the increase in global warming as a result of various economic issues that come alongside it, there is a need to establish solutions to controlling it. Population growth first needs to be made a matter of international awareness. People across the world should be made aware that the current population of the world is one of the causes of global warming (Gitliz, 2018). Most people in the world are still not informed that global warming is highly caused by tremendous population growth and hence there is need to create awareness across the world concerning the negative impacts of uncontrolled population growth.
A high rate of population growth is also encountered in countries where there is some low level of education. Illiteracy is, therefore, a sufficient reason for overpopulation that the world can solve. It should be the responsibility of the world leaders and every government to make sure that people across the globe are literate which would be sufficient measures to ensure that there is a lower population growth rate. Literacy makes people understand the consequences of uncontrolled population growth. It would thus be a good enough path to reduce the rate of population growth.
Lastly, the population menace can be fully solved only through legislative action. Seeing that continued growth of the population would be destructive to the incumbent occupants of the planet as well as the ones born, it would be a sufficient approach for governments to each in own outlook of their specific populations, decide on the maximum number of children that a parent can have (LeDuox, 2018). That approach would consequently make parents call of parenting after they reach the legal number that they should have. In Columbia for instance, parents could be restricted to two children which would see the population remain constant for the next five years.
Conclusion
Global warming has been on the rise in recent years. The trend has been found to be consistent with population growth. Global warming has been on the rise due to the release of greenhouse gases such as Carbon (IV) Oxide, Methane among others which absorb infrared radiations, preventing them from being removed from the atmosphere which consequently causes an increase in the temperature of the world. Global warming has its social, political and economic impacts on developing countries such as Columbia. To prevent the impacts of global warming from extending into the future, there is a need to control the rate of population growth which can be done through awareness, increased literacy advocacy and use of legislative power to limit new births.
