Question 1
Technology-based society today offers a wide range of digital communication and information sources. Nursing and other professions employ social media often in an increasingly useful, wide-ranging tool. However, with abundant resources comes significant responsibility (Jackson, Fraser & Ash, 2014). In the process of navigation through social networking, nurses often find themselves in a thin line between professional and personal online etiquette. In some circumstances, they risk breaking state or federal laws or both.
In one of my conversations with my friend, I felt overwhelmed, and we were talking about our professions and the challenges aligned with them. The conversation was general until she asked about the cases of diabetic diseases. I have been posting many of the cases online, and the friend was really into understanding the cases. The proposal was perfect, and the sharing was very engaging. However, while on the talk, the example that I was almost giving would have meant breaching the patients’ privacy. I had to stop for a moment to get an example of cases that I read some time back in book examples.
Question 2
The healthcare professionals have the task of maintaining the confidentiality and privacy of the patients and also represent their employment place positively. Misusing social media can lead to disciplinary action, which would affect the nurses’ career negatively and cost them their license. The HIPPA, Health Insurance Portability, and Accountability Act of 1996 passage meant that patients hold rights over their health records, and it limits the access personalities to the information (Ventola, 2014). National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) describes the conditions in which the information can be shared. The breach of trust associated with the nurse patients’ relationship has repercussions. It could damage the nurses’ overall trustworthiness, the organization, and the profession as a whole.
Various circumstances in which the confidentiality and privacy of a patient can be violated in social media include videos or photos of the patient or revealing the room numbers or the patients’ records. Also, it can be, describing the patient and the medical conditions and degradingly or demeaning referring to the patient (Ventola, 2014). The nurse commenting on social media on the severity of condition of a patient or medication prescribed to the patient calls for the violation of the patients’ confidentiality.
Question 3
Inherent dignity respect of all persons leads to recognition. The rights and privileges the society bestows on or withdraws from its composition indicate the esteem held by the society on a particular person or group of people. The values the society holds makes us affirm that all the people are valuable in God’s sight. Using social media in the learning of the various factors that would be effective in building society builds on the equality and value for the people. Social media can be useful for interactive learning for the nurses and also for the follower in whom they may share the health information and delivery better healthcare for the patients (Cheston, Flickinger & Chisolm, 2013). The social media platforms can also be useful in helping the nurses get support and help and stay positive at hard times.
