Sociology is the study of the development of the human society. In this response paper, I will be responding to the sociological perspective and sociological investigation as authored by John J. Macionis in his book, Sociology sixteenth edition. The responses will be analytical and thoughtful personal point of view on what the content in the two chapters.

First, from the sociological perspective, in my opinion, I agree with the author that societal power has a significant influence on marriages. Macionis (n.d.) indicated that majority of the married couples in the United States are guided by the World socially when it comes to choosing marriage partners and what they look for in them The author stated that most people who get married are almost of the same age with similar education levels. Likewise, most couples are of the same race and ethnic groups.

Moreover, I believe the authors’ words about how our lives are shaped by where we live. He gives an instance that women from rich and developing countries think differently. In this case, suggested by the number of children given birth to by different women from different parts of the World. In an illustration, the author indicates that women who live in emerging countries bear more children than those who are from rich countries. On the same note, Macionis explains that World over only seven people out of 100 has earned a college degree. Illustrating this fact, he says that some of the things that hinder more students from the enrollment are the issue of an age bracket of young people going to college and the high cost of higher education. However, to me, this cannot be the only hindrance, and therefore the author leaves the reader with unanswered questions.

In a rejecting opinion, the author state that the United States has a severe problem of poverty. I consider this not factual given that the United State is one of the leading economies in the World where it controls of many numerous trade deals across the World. However, it is correct according to Macionis (n.d.) that United States economy is challenged by the fact that the economies of other countries are booming hence the rest of the World is becoming more powerful and wealthier.

On the other hand, Macioni (n.d.)in the second chapter on Sociological investigation he outlines how the African American in their late twenties have a disadvantage of graduating with a degree in college over their white fellow men. This is because most of them have a high probability of being in prison as compared to their white counterparts. In this regard, I agree with the author since that is how the society has set the lives of the American people as he back up the statements with statistical data from the United States Census Bureau and Justice Department in 2014.

In my opinion, the author is right to disregard many assumptions by the North American people. He is to argue that the majority of lawbreakers are mostly poor people as compared to the rich people is not true. Moreover, I strongly agree with him that Human nature does not necessarily differentiate behaviors between males and females. On the contrary, I have a different view from him. The author explains that it is not always that people marry because of love (Macionis, n.d.). According to me, love plays a significant role in marriages especially at the beginning of the unions. However, the foundation of love may decline with time.

In conclusion, the author is generally clear with what he says while he backs it up with illustrations. It is my view that the book written with educative and exciting information. Again the author seems to have done extensive research due to the insight and elaborate information in the book.
