Supply Chain Management and Control

Question 1.

  1. Discuss the concept of control. Is control helpful? Isn’t being controlling a negative?

Control is an important managerial function in an organization. It is used to ensure that the purpose of the organization is achieved. Control is helpful in ensuring that the company is always operating within the allowed parameters; for instance a processing company operates within the allowed carbon emission limits and other set standards on the pollution of the environment. Control in this sense is important in ensuring the activities of the company are safe for everybody involved while at the same time working towards the achievement of the company’s goals.

Control ensures that the planning and management of the company programs is effective and takes the company closer to the set goals and objectives. The control aspect of the company is concerned with overall quality of the company (DeBenedeti, 2017).  Control can only be negative when misused. For instance when control is used to overwork employees, it ceases to be effective. The importance of control in such a scenario would only regulate the compulsory roles such as work attendance and customer service. The employees have freedom to improve the company operations with the right approach on the use of control by the management.

Control ensure that external hazards to the company are foreseen and prevented where possible for instance where the quality of the products may be of quality that is compromised, the control team should be aware. Control in a company is supposed to ensure that there is good quality products and services produced by the employees. This type of control is effective and positive control.

  1. Sometimes you do well on exams. Sometimes you have bad days. What are the assignable causes when you do poorly?

Assignable causes of poor performance are the unavoidable situations that cause an individual to underperform. Sometimes one can prepare extensively for a particular activity but things go wrong on the material day. For instance, one can suddenly fall ill and despite all the prior preparation, the performance will be affected negatively. It also possible for one to underperform as a result of nervousness and tension which could be a result of lack of enough rest or the lack of rest caused by tension and nervousness. External factors can also affect an individual’s performance. For instance, the sickness of a spouse is likely to cause stress and distraction. Such factors can easily get in the way of performance in test. Having a bad day can equally ruin the performance of an individual. For instance; in a single day, everything can go wrong, the individual gets late to report to the required duties, personal items like cellpnoes and watches get lost on the way. By the time the individual has to perform on a given task, they are disoriented in a way that they cannot concentrate as required.

Assigned caused of poor performances are often unfortunate events that compromise the capability of an individual to perform efficiently. The possibility of a student to fail in an exam is sky high even when on normal occasions they are good performers. The pressure to perform exemplarily can make a student make mistakes that will ruin their overall performance. It is also possible for overconfidence to cause under par performance. When on feels that they are too ready, they tend to overlook the small details which eventually end up bringing down a performance. Lack of preparation can also occur as a result of overconfidence. The individual may feel like they already know everything and take preparation for granted. In most cases such attitude results automatically in botched performances. Distractions can also be assigned causes of bad performances. When one fails to rest enough, they end up performing poorly. Fatigue and exhaustion reduced the performance ability of an individual because they lack the ability to concentrate in their tasks.

2. What are key attribute for a high-quality university?

Quality can be simply used to refer to a service or product being access and valued as per the expectations of the client. For instance a quality shoe for a client will be exactly as the seller’s advertisement promised. Quality of service is supposed to be delivered in a way that the client feels they have received value for their money. A quality university is thus attributed to producing market ready graduates and responsible adults. A quality university has to invest in research for good quality technology, updated curriculum and well experienced lecturers regardless of their origin (Salmi, 2009). With this measure in place, the graduates produced will have been equipped with relevant life skills. The university will also ensure that they have links with the job market in order to expand the capacity of the job market to absorb the graduates they produce without being limited to geographical borders. Quality universities are keen to follow up on the students to ensure that they succeed in getting internship opportunities.

0Quality at the university can only be quantified by the performance of the graduates that have passed through its system and curriculum. Quality graduates are often quick to adapt to work environments and have the basic knowledge in their field of study. They usually have done more than study to pass their exams by ensuring they know what is actually happening on the ground. They often know what they are studying in theory as well as practically.
