At this point the little boys have been having a nightmare of a beast monster and the nightmares are perceived as true when one day the boys see from a distance an enormous silhouette of a parachute of a military who had fallen from a plane when the boys were asleep and they all believe that it’s the beast they had seen.

Jack’s team of hunters decide to go and hunt the beast as Ralph’s team remains behind and decide to build a new signal fire on the beach instead of the mountain, but before they have finished the task, most of them get exhausted and slip into Jack’s team of hunters. After seeing his popularity, Jack declares himself the new chief of the team and organizes a hunt and a ritual slaughter to mark the occasion where Ralph and Piggy joins the feast.

Simon on the other hand has gone into seclusion where he is believed to spending time alone as he was epileptic and would occasionally faint. During his seclusion he experiences a vision in his head where he sees the pig’s head that Jack’s team has slaughtered being swarmed by scavenging flies and he dubs it the “Lord of the Flies” which frightens him. Simon travels to the beach to tell the others what he has seen. But the others are in the midst of a feast and when they see Simon’s shadowy figure emerge from the jungle, they think it’s the beast and they fall upon him and kill him.

The following morning, Ralph and Piggy are ashamed to have being involved in Simon’s death but they console themselves in the fact that they thought they were attacking the beast. Jack’s team decides that it was time they stole Piggy’s glasses and kept them and hence they attack Piggy and Ralph and steal the glasses. In return Piggy and Ralph decide to go and get the glasses in harmony and Jack’s team were not about to give back the glasses and instead started a battle where Piggy was killed and Ralph’s conch shattered. Ralph manages to escape and hide.

Jack’s team is determined to hunt Ralph down and they set the forest on fire in order to smoke him out. Ralph runs from the forest onto the beach, where he sees a British naval officer standing over him. The officer’s ship noticed the fire raging in the jungle. The other boys reach the beach and stop in their tracks at the sight of the officer. Ralph is overwhelmed by the knowledge that he is safe but, thinking about what has happened on the island, he begins to weep, he weeps for the death of Piggy and for the boy’s innocence lost. The other boys begin to sob as well.
