The Grapes of Wrath

People who leave home to a new place are often met with immense difficulties most of which they never expected. In the first place, the search for a job is not just a simple search. It is a process that is tiresome and mentally draining. When one leaves their home and goes to a new place, they are bound to use the savings that they had. Sometimes, the savings get used up even before they secure a job. Most of them are therefore obliged to live with their distant relatives who live in the cities or place where they seek to establish a livelihood. 

Just like Wheatley writes in her poem, people who move from their homes to new areas expect that they will be treated with mercy. They believe that they will meet understanding people whom they will make good relations with and establish a career together. They do not want to go back to their homelands the same way they were as they believe that it was just a land of suffering. They are therefore full of expectations without understanding the future that lies ahead of them.

However, even if it sometimes works for some of the people who move from their homeland, most people are meted with difficulties. Those who move into their relatives’ homes are likely to be flushed out after some time as they are of no benefit to them other than consuming them. Just like the author of the Grapes of Wrath presents, that is the beginning of their suffering. 

Some will lack a place to spend a night on and are likely to work for low wages just for food. The two authors are therefore successful in highlighting the case of people who move from their homelands to new areas in search of better livelihoods and the problems that they face. 

In conclusion, moving from home to another locality in search of a better livelihood is a hard decision to make. One needs to make in sobriety understanding that there are difficulties to face and scores of exploitation to get across. However, one needs not to give up because amidst the struggle, they need to live and fulfill their dreams.
