I have in the past questioned myself about the true meaning of life. Often times, I wonder about our existenceas humans, and what had happened before life began on earth. What makes life what it is? David Peeples attempts to explain this in his book. To start off, the author explains the origin of life. How we got to be and what led to our creation. There are two known theories that explain the presence of man on earth; the creation theory and the evolution theory. People choose to believe in either of the theories depending on their beliefs. I liked how the author explained the two theories, clearing any doubt the reader could have with the two.
There are a lot of puzzling life questions that get answered once one starts reading this book. Davis Peeples understand that it is the nature of humans to be curious and to want to know more about life. Is life really a mystery? The author answers this in his wide explanations.
David Peeples dwells on probability analysis in chapter 4.The reason this chapter got to be my favorite was that one gets to see how science, religion, and reality relate. How the average person believes statements by Ph.D. holders, just because they are experts. How true are theories that the experts feed us? One needs to know that even with the many certificates and awards scholars get not everything they state is true. I enjoyed this part because it enabled me to open my eyes and be more open to criticizing information given by the so-called experts. Preconceived bias sometimes leads to misinformation of the masses.
The author questions the evolution theory at some point in the book. He says “We owe it to ourselves and to our impressionable children and grandchildren to seriously consider whether or not evolution is really a logical, evidence-based concept that is strongly supported by science
and history..” This extract had me deeply think about what I had previously read about evolution. The author’s tone reads like that of one who doubts the theory.
I immensely enjoyed going through this book. There are a lot of things I had previously not understood prior to reading this book. I loved that the author referenced Galileo, Sir Isaac Newton, Kepler and many other historical figures in his explanation of the laws of nature and the lawgiver.
“The Mystery Of Life: What’s It All About?” helps the reader understand that even despite all the inventions and creations by man, there is a higher being who controls all of us. The author states how conflicting science can be vis-a-vis religion. In a world where people have different faiths and beliefs, the author reminds us that God is the giver of everything. It is refreshing to read such a book because one gets to view life from a different perspective. I was also able to understand why it is important that we live righteously because each one of us has a purpose in this world.
