Titch the Itch by B.C.R Fegan

The formative years are riddled with aimless wandering in search of a place to truly belong. Even as adults, we sometimes feel out of place. That is what makes this book such a perfect choice for children. 

It is a story about Titch. He is having a hard time forming lasting relationships, as people just cannot stand him. No one sees beyond his annoying persona. Deep down, he just wants to be a friend. He cannot help his physical nature. He wishes someone would tolerate him long enough to see his pure soul. 

B. C. R Fegan does a good job of turning an almost impossible concept into a touching story. The book will draw you in with the beautiful illustrations by Lenny Wen but you will keep reading for the fantastic storyline. You will find yourself echoing the emotions of Titch as he grows through all the rejections. 

The quintessence of the lowly itch is the desire to fit in somewhere, anywhere. He just wants to e accepted. The author does a good job of drawing the reader in with the emotion surrounding the struggle of Titch. In some instances, one will find themselves ignoring an itch in an effort to make Titch smile.

Every story is deserving of a few light moments. The author gives this story just the right amount of humor. It is woven in so artistically to lighten the mood when things get a little too intense. The book is meant for children and young adults. A demographic that is synonymous with a short attention span. The humor will keep them engaged and glued to the story until the end. There is a sprinkling of mystery to further draw the reader in.

The character of Titch is deep and relatable. Everyone has, at one time or other, been an itch. With everyone quickly finding a way to get rid of it. Fegan has created a memorable character that everyone empathizes with. No one can help his or her nature. Nevertheless, everyone should try hard to accept others despite their nature.

Leny Wen is quite the talented illustrator. His depiction of Titch is a combination of what others perceive and what he himself thinks he is. He is a crossbreed between a monster and a dust bunny. The monster everyone sees when they cross paths with him. To himself he is easily blown away. A simple scratch will have him scattered all over the place. 

The colors are vibrant and beautiful. The book is attractive to read. It will be appealing to the target demographic. The general artwork is captivating.

This book has short and easy to read sentences. These make navigating the story easy as one does not spend too much time understanding an intricate sentence. The author also keeps the paragraphs short and to the point. 

Titch is successful in finding a friend in the end. He exemplifies perseverance and determination. These two qualities accord him success. This is an important lesson to instill in young minds. One can get further in life with these qualities than with education
