Topic Selection

Purpose Statement: To demonstrate that marriage is about love and commitment, and provided any two people love each other, irrespective of their social status or sexual orientation, they are entitled to enjoy the benefits of the same.

Thesis Statement: The legalization of gay marriages will allow gay couples to enjoy their basic human rights, and since marriage is an individual personal choice the state should not interfere or prevent same-gender couples from marrying.

Reasons: This topic is important because it presents a growing concern as a lot of families have been living as same-gender couples without legal validation of their union (Schuh, 2004). Legalizing such marriages will provide validity to these unions and lead to more stable family structures, and the partners and kin can enjoy legal recognition and access to their estates in case they pass away.

Purpose Statement: The purpose is to look at why technology presents multiple ways of interconnecting people yet by all appearances it seems to push people further apart instead of drawing people together.

Thesis Statement: Technology is merely a tool for which we can exercise absolute control over therefore whether it draws us closer to other people or pushes us further apart is entirely dependent upon us.

Reason: Technology permeates every facet of life presenting an almost infinite number of ways to connect with other people, even across large distances. The observation by some overreliance on technological gadgets for interacting with others at the expense of face to face communication (Pappano, 2001), even when they are in close proximity, is a failure not of technology, but of our own socialization skills. Technology is merely a tool, we can use it whichever way we want.
