The Phantom of the Opera

The phantom of the opera is poetic is various ways. The phantom of the opera has an irregular rhyme scheme, (a,b,b,c,d,c). This is seen in the lines where the end words are; me,duet,yet,behind,there and mind in that order (The Phantom of the Opera). These words do not follow a uniform pattern making the rhyme scheme irregular. This is likely to encourage the listener to listen more keenly to the changes in sounds because there is no monotony in the repetition of the words creating a musicality. The poem lacks in alliteration of sounds as well. There are no repeated vowel sounds. The poem has imagery for the mind which is referred to as something that can keep the phantom. All these factors support the story line of the poem, where the duet between the Phantom and Christine is termed as “strange” by the Phantom. It encourages people in this case to want to finish listening to the song to know why the duet is being considered strange.

 It is important that when reading the words in the Phantom of the Opera, one looks at the character and role of the persona to get the story line. The content in this case is the reflection of the Phantom on the connection he shares with Christine. It is also important that the reader is made aware that the duet is between the persona and another character. This will make it easier to understand that the duet the persona refers to is not a form of internal conflict of thoughts or an internal dialogue. Poetry and songs in literature are ways of expressions by the authors. In this case, the story in the phantom of the opera is about the powerful phantom (The Phantom of the Opera).
