Ralph Alpher did not support either God or Science. He just wanted evidence of either side’s claims. He constantly approached his Rabbi with evidence in contradiction of the religious beliefs he was learning at his bar Mitzvah. Eventually the Rabbi grew tired of his distractions and just told him directly that he was there to please his father. He was told that whatever he did after was of no matter to the Rabbi. After this incident, his investment and commitment to religion diminished considerably. Years later, he applied to MIT to learn more about the science side of things. MIT rescinded their acceptance after learning of Ralph’s Jewish roots. 

This is a common conundrum. Both religious and scientific icons despise imposition of the other side’s ideas. For this reason, there is often a clash of the two. To affirm the religious side, Rick Arons uses the baby test. Babies always seem to have an almost godly force that arms them with a degree of morality from bad. This is seen when babies reject a bad person and immediately warm up to a good one. Scientists insist that humanity came into being from very simple occurrences, occurrences that are pretty easy to explain. Humanist scientists explain the existence of God as a figment of imagination created to comfortably answer life’s existential questions. This is not to say that science rejects the evidence presented on the existence of God. The question is how to evaluate it.

Evolution makes sense to a point. How then can the peculiar behavior of astronomy and physics be explained? How is it that all these factors that make life on earth possible have maintained perfect balance and symmetry to keep humanity alive? The conclusion herein is that a definitive answer cannot be found in either science or religion. That the theory of everything does not exist. That neither pure science nor blind faith holds the answer. What is the balance between religion and science? To what degree does each explain life? What is the reality?

Rick Arons has written the Unholy Alliance to sort of settle the fight for superiority between science and religion. The book is well researched. Scientific theories and scripture heavily support the narrative. Rick Arons has demonstrated his extensive knowledge of both in a way that appeals and assures the reader. It is a thought provoking book. It brings up some sensitive issues. Rick Arons plays right on the edge without actually stepping over the boundaries.
