Week 11 International Marketing Discussion

Hello class, 

The interesting thing I learnt about Indonesia is its relations with the US and the strength of its market. Indonesia possesses the world’s greatest marine biodiversity. By purchasing power, it is the tenth-largest economy in the world. It has the largest Muslim-majority population, is the world’s third largest democracy, and is the second greatest terrestrial biodiversity. The country’s stability and security has been increased by its democratization and reform process since 1998. In 2010, president Obama inaugurated the U.S.-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership, fostering consistent high-level engagement on civil society and democracy, trade issues, education, energy, maritime, climate, security and others (GDS, 2014). This will definitely make it easier for an American to open business in Indonesia.

Another interesting thing about Indonesia is its marketing strengths including abundance of natural resources and high population of working age adults. Yearly, the population increases by about 4.5 million and there is political stability due to the 1998 transition to democracy (GDS, 2014). During the course work, there is one interesting thing that stroked me about Germany, their culture. Germans are the masters of planning which assists them to be forward thinking and knowing what they are required to do on a specific day and time.

I like your discussion on the interesting facts about Netherlands. Through your discussion I have been able to acquire a lot of information about the country. You have well elaborated your facts. According to you, unemployment is the lowest in the European Union and they have the strongest unions. I like the way you have compared the shoe assignment with a business plan. You have mentioned that social media is a good tool to use in a competitive world. How would you use social media in marketing?

Hello Christopher,

I like your discussion this week. You have elaborated the interesting things you learnt about your country of choice. Panama is one country I am not conversant with. However through the discussion I have gained some interest of knowing much about the country. I have learnt some strengths of the market. The country uses dollars in its transaction and lacks currency control. The other strength is that the country allows 100% foreign ownership which is an added advantage to a potential business owner. Additionally, the country does not restrict or repatriate profits and capital. Christopher, what are some challenges that a company may experience while doing business in Panama?
