Week 3- International Marketing

Indonesia is a highly diverse nation composed of over 17,500 islands that hosts over 300 ethnic groups (Guide & Guide, 2016). Hays (2016) explains that Indonesia is a high context culture as they are more comfortable and tolerant living in a society shape by diversity. These diversities include between Muslims and Christians; between devout Muslims and liberal ones; between Java and the other islands; between modernists and traditionalist; and between the various ethnic groups. Indonesia has been described as courageous, tenacious, resourceful and resilient. Majority of the people define themselves locally before nationally, with each province having its own ethnic make-up, own language, history and resilient. 

Germany is a valued globally due to its precision decision in the auto industry. Germany is in contrast to Indonesia as it is a low context culture. The country also has few minority ethnic groups. The ethnic groups and people in Germany follow rules and standards closely, have short term relationships and are task oriented.

Hello Kasey. I agree with your discussion that England is between high-context culture and low context culture. You have contrasted England and Japan in terms of context culture. England is a high culture because it uses humor in the society. However it can also be termed as low context culture. This is because it pays less attention to social context and cues. They also prefer detailed and precise information. This is in contrary to Japan which pays close attention to social contexts and cues. I have also noticed that British people joke about everything including religion, politicians and even the queen. Kasey, explain how else England express their humor?

Hello Hayley. I like the way you have discussed the context culture of Argentina. You have also contrasted the context culture of Argentina to that of US. As you have stated, Americans are very individualistic and linear making it low context culture. On the other hand, Argentina politics and businesses rely on personal powers and relations of influence. Additionally, Argentina prefers ambiguous message which is in contrast to US which prefers precise information. How are the two concept differentiated in terms of space?
