What Does It Mean to Own Something

In the article, the prompt given, states that ownership and sense of self both have different meanings. The main question is “What does it mean to own something? ‘ Many argue that ownership is not much of a great thing, it can be of different negative meanings, while others disagree and think that ownership helps develop character. In the society we live in today, people own a lot of things from a car, to a house, and other things, but what does it truly mean to own something? Is it possible to own tangible and intangible objects?
As aristotle claimed, he believed that the ownership of tangible goods help develop a persons moral character. I do agree with aristotle because when a person has ownership over something it might change their moral character for the better for example, when you receive an award, it changes your mood and you become proud of yourself and motivated to keep doing well. Jean Paul Sartre was also another intelligent man, he believed that people can also own intangible things like skill, I also gree because you might have a certain skill that is unique and nobody else can achieve.
Many people may disagree with my argument that people can own tangible, and intangible objects. Plato was an influential greek philosopher who was respected, and famous, he had his own beliefs about ownership. He argues that the ownership of objects is detrimental to one’s character. The meaning of ownership is to have complete control over something, and i disagree fully with plato because anyone can take ownership of something that is theirs.
