What led to Childs being charged with a crime?

Terry Childs was convicted for tampering with passwords policy of San Francisco City (Infosecurity-magazine.com, 2019). He was also convicted for influencing auditing checks. Childs avoided emails, phone calls and interviews. Child eluded interviews, phone calls and emails, which led to the mounting of grievances towards DTIC management and possible lack of security awareness. Given the nature his actions, Childs was found guilty for tampering with the network, as well as perjury. Judge Teri Jackson convicted Childs, subsequently serving 755 days in prison (Zibreg, 2019). He was left eligible for parole following 4-6 months of incarceration. He was also required to pay 1.5 million in restitution fees. 

How did his employer respond to his actions? 

Subsequently, the employer launched a case against Childs reprimanding his actions for causing grave loss for the city. His actions were also questioned to be extremely bizarre, occasionally reflecting possibilities of miss-management of organizational resources. 

What did it do right and/or wrong?

Ideally, the company did not conduct security checks to evaluate a harmful and dangerous behavior as exhibited from employees. The company did not have sufficient monitoring software that scanned all user data, more so the organization did not evaluate the impact of its actions in developing appropriate information. The company was therefore negligent and ignorant of possible employee behavior (Venezia, 2019). However, the organization was competent in launching a case against Childs for conducting dangerous and harmful behavior. 

What could the company have done to better secure its assets?

Upon realization of Child’s gross behavior, the organization would have evaluated its security parameters by examining the private accounts and passwords policy. The organization also focused fully on critical networks and systems. The organization was required to install secur3ity software for monitoring unsanctioned move, which further included movement seizure and footage.
