Over the years women all over the world have been discriminated almost in every field of life. Mostly when it comes to employment. In defense forces, about 68 % of employees are male workers, of which the number has increased in recent years (Fuchs, 1989). Furthermore, according to the international labor organization, it shows that women are also paid that women are paid less than their male counterparts.
Research that has been continuously carried out by the united nation human rights department clearly indicates an alarming rate in which the female in the workplace is taken advantage by their seniors. This because women are considered inferior which is just mythical. As I interpreting the data from the human rights department it shows that the exploitation of women at workplace leads them to quit work. This makes them lose confidence in their ability making them fail to reject their full potential for their purpose in jobs.
Women who are employed also suffer from being promoted to the next job group. I found this common in developing countries, especially in sub-Saharan Africa (Duflo, 2005). I found out that women could spend more than fifteen years of their work life without being promoted. The same information clearly showed that women were discriminated in jobs since males employed for the same task could be promoted within five years of promotion. However, the united states government in support of other non-governmental organizations has passed laws that regulate the promotions of workers equally for both genders in the private sector. This will encourage women to perform better in their place of work and also be passionate in their work. This will lead to the increased quality performance of the private sector
I also found out that some jobs were associated with women, especially jobs that had low wages and were more exhausting like secretarial jobs. These are jobs that require a person to spend a lot of time while performing them while in return receiving very wages. In average a secretary was paid $1500 a year which is an amount that doesn’t even meet all the basic needs in the current economy.
However, the government has come up with laws that firms and companies must meet before setting up the business like each company must meet the two-thirds gender rule that is ensuring that no more than two-thirds of the employees will be from the same gender (Goldin, 1992). This has been backed up by the non-governmental organization and the human rights activists. The government also has put measures to ensure that there is transparency in salary allocation.
Women are also encouraged to pursue male-dominated careers.
Finally, the culprits who are found violating women and exploiting them in their place of work should face the law to ensure justice to the women. Women should also be given paid maternal leave to ensure that they have equality and to feel recognized and being part of the organization they work for.
