Employees’ health at any workplace is very crucial. Preventing health and safety hazards at work and maintaining suitable work schedule promotes the mental health and the wellbeing of employees hence they establish a healthy lifestyle and their working capacity is improved. Considering the rapid technology development that has led to people working long hours and under pressure due to the stiff competition, there is need to improve work and working environment to combat occupational accidents and diseases. Below are three approaches on how to support employees’ health in the workplace.

1. Supporting individual health

The physical and psychological health of every employee corresponds to their productivity in their work. It is necessary to encourage healthy eating on every work day and promote physical activity to make sure they keep fit; keeping emphasis on the health of employees by organizing a staff assembly twice a year, providing them with the necessary prophylaxis and safety clothing where need be, hosting educative sessions on topics like stress, mental health, hypertension, diabetes, focusing on employees’ safety.

• Ensuring a healthy workplace

Spacious, well lit and ventilated offices or sitting area for your employees should be provided to ensure there is no congestion which could contribute to communicable diseases or to stuffiness and an uncomfortable working environment hence decreasing their effectiveness in work.  Appropriate work schedules should be put in place to ensure that the time limit of exposure to hazardous environment is not exceeded at all for employees working in sensitive departments.
